What is Shockwave therapy?

Shockwave therapy (Extracorporeal shockwave)is a non-invasive treatment to alleviate pain. It is predominantly used to heal tendinopathies and other joint disorders

How does it work?

Shockwave sends sound waves (mechanical) into the soft tissue or bone and causes a micro trauma, breaking down scar tissue. This microtrauma signals the body to start healing and the body increases blood flow to that tissue, therefore accelerating healing.

What can you treat with shockwave?

Shockwave is most effective at treating tendinopathies for example rotator cuff, Achilles, hamstring, gluteal tendon issues and tennis elbow.

What can I expect?

Shockwave therapy can be uncomfortable, but this is short lived. Some patients experience immediate pain relief, for others it may take up to 24 hours for pain relief. Shockwave therapy is often given along side a rehabilitation tendon loading and muscle strengthening program.
